Passivhaus building
This project constitutes a milestone in efficient architecture as it is the first Passivhaus certified public building in Spain.
The starting points of the project of the new Villamediana de Iregua library They are: Development of the complete program of a public library of a municipality of 7,468 inhabitants, design of a building with volumes adapted to the location in which it is located, trying to sponge the urban fabric and compliance with the PASSIVHAUS standard
The proposed volume consists of a two-piece twin, the first prism is entirely intended for library use while the second prism is intended to house building services. Next to the union of the two volumes there is a patio whose purpose is to guarantee natural lighting conditions throughout the interior of the library.
The resulting volume is partially buried in the ground in order to reduce its height and minimize the size of the building with respect to the surroundings, favoring the perception of the urban fabric's fluffiness. On the other hand, the decrease in height and the direction of slope of the roof facilitate access to it from Calle Escuelas in the northeast corner of the building, so that the roof becomes a public space.
The largest hole opens on the west façade since it is the main façade of the building and through which the main access is produced. Since it is an orientation that also involves risks of overheating during the summer months, the installation of a vertical sunshade system has been planned. The arrangement of these parasols has been made following an aesthetic criterion of a barcode, whose translation is the name "library" and whose visual appearance resembles that of the spines of books arranged on a shelf.
